Loan Comparison Calculator

Weigh up two loan options side by side — different rates, fees and features — to see which one costs less over the life of the loan.

Calculators are provided by VisionAbacus through the MFAA. Results are estimates only, are based on the accuracy of the information entered, and don’t constitute a quote or loan approval.

How To Use It

Using the loan comparison calculator

  1. Enter the loan amount and term you need.
  2. Enter the rate and fees for the first loan, then the second.
  3. Compare the total cost over the period you expect to keep the loan, not just the full term.

FAQ

Loan Comparison calculator questions

How do I compare two home loans properly?

Compare the total cost over the time you expect to hold the loan, not just the interest rate. Include upfront fees, ongoing fees and the rate, then check features such as offset, redraw and extra repayment limits. A loan with a slightly higher rate can still cost less if its fees are lower or its offset account suits how you manage your money.

Why compare over a shorter period than the loan term?

Because most Australians refinance or sell well before a 30-year loan runs its course. Upfront fees weigh more heavily over a short period, while a rate difference matters more over a long one. Comparing over the period you actually expect to keep the loan, such as five years, gives a more realistic answer about which option costs less.
